ANSI vs ISO: choose the correct keycap layout

ANSI vs ISO: choose the correct keycap layout
October 13, 2026

ANSI and ISO describe physical key arrangements. A keyboard size such as 60%, 75% or TKL does not tell you which layout it uses.

Look at Enter and left Shift

  • ANSI: a horizontal rectangular Enter key and a longer left Shift.
  • ISO: a taller, L-shaped Enter key and a shorter left Shift with an additional key beside it.

Check the kit, not just the keyboard size

An ANSI-only kit should not be assumed to include ISO keys. A kit advertised for ISO still needs the right legends and regional keys for your chosen layout. Some kits contain options for both; the kit image and packing list should show them.

Compare every required Enter, Shift and regional key before purchasing. If you cannot confirm the contents, contact us with your keyboard model and layout.
